To find _The Books of Magic_ by Gaiman, go to a comic book store and
find/ask for the first one. Note that in one of the most recent issues
of the comic, no longer written by Gaiman, there is a cameo by a Potter
look-alike.
Several complete story sets from the ongoing comic series are also
collected in "The books of Magic: Subtitle" where the subtitle is the
story arc covered in that volume. You need to find the first one, by
Gaiman, though.

Gaiman is an incredible author for grown-ups. Not for kids, clearly. The
comic is very dark and has been from the beginning; much more so than
Potter started out. Much of what is going on in the comic seems to have
Tim Hunter continually fighting to do the right thing, even while many
of the right decisions have an aura of impending doom, of inevitably
having things going wrong despite the fact that Tim is trying to rescue
friends, help the weak, etc. - kind of like the _The Empire Strikes back_
now that I think about it!
