Hi Ebony (and everyone else),

You were saying you were thinking about plotting geographical
locations. Well...one of my mad theories (which is fairly well backed up)
is that Hogwarts is in Scotland, not England. We see this in CoS, when
the FFA (Flying Ford Anglia) is spotted by a man in Peebles. Peebles is
pretty near the main road from Carlisle (the northwestern bit of England,
and where the main West Coast motorway passes through) to Edinburgh
(East Coast of Scotland). This road (if I remember correctly) is the A702.

Since it would have to still be light for the man to see the car, we
can safely assume that it's before 6 pm (or earlier) when the FFA is
spotted. It takes 5 hours for the train from King's Cross to Edinburgh
(believe me, I've taken it far too many times to get to St Andrews),
so that would mean that the car would have been seen at, say, somewhere
between 4 and 5 pm, allowing for the fact that the Hogwarts Express is
a steam train and not an electric fast one.

So...Hogwarts must therefore be a couple of hours north of Peebles,
so an hour and a half or so north of Edinburgh.

Anybody disagree? ::grins and gets out the asbestos flame suit::
