Hi:

<<<Here's a food related question... how is it that the students can eat
so much food (even when it's not "feast" time, there's TONS of food on
the house tables...) without becoming um... Dudleyesque in stature? Is
it magic food? Does it automatically sense how many calories you need
for that meal, then just zap away the excess? I mean, sure, the students
climb a lot of staircases, but they don't have phys. ed. - and their
only sport is played on broomstick. Just curious as to what you guys
think about this>>>

Well, having spent 2 weeks in the UK recently, I have the same
question. You Brits eat *heavy* food, but there isn't near the
obesity/weight problem in the UK as we have over here. My husband
& I pondered this as we ate meal after meal laden with fattening
foods. Example: after checking into our hotel in London on arrival, we
just stepped into some cafe to get a quick bite --ordered pizza by the
slice. It came with french fries! Later, in western England, we ordered
a delicious Cornish pasty -- meat & potatoes in a pastry -- which was
served with a large helping of fried potatoes on the side. What's up
with all those potatoes anyway? Potatoes with *everything*!!!

Anyway -- we concluded it must be activity level. We decided the
Brits tend to exercise more in general -- it seemed like more people
walk alot than over here. Is that why you all aren't so heavy as we
Americans? Thoughts??
