is a more emotionally intense person...>>>
Yes, I agree. Here's an example -- in PoA when Harry is choking up a
bit telling Remus that he can hear Voldemort murdering his mum when
the dementors get close to him, Remus makes as though to grab Harry's
shoulder, but draws back from contact. It's as though he wants to comfort
his old friend's son, but is drawing a line based on the student/teacher
relationship or something. This always bugged me truth be told (even
though I think Remus goes a long way to establish a special relationship
with Harry).
But, contrast that scene with one of the ending scenes of GoF where
Harry is quite upset &
shaken as he is reliving the confrontation with Voldemort. Sirius'
hands are shaking as he
helps Harry into a chair, and he keeps his hand gripping Harry's shoulder
throughout the
conversation. It's certainly implied that Sirius is in tears by the end
of Harry's tale. He
also seems to be in tears at one point in PoA -- when he's finally
convinced Harry that he
didn't betray James & Lily. He's clearly more emotional.
Granted, his emotional range is extreme it seems -- hair-trigger temper
& all. But, on balance, Harry needs someone to lean on who has more
emotional depth (IMO).
I think Remus is great -- he's a good and kind person who takes more
than a passing interest in Harry certainly. But Sirius has clearly taken
the initiative to establish a more personal relationship with Harry. He
takes his godfather role quite seriously.
So . . . I definitely find Remus to be more detached. I do hope we'll
see him again in
Book 5 though as, after Sirius, he is my favorite adult character!
