that Parvati's name was an allusion to the character of Parvati, a witch
in Salman Rushdie's excellent Midnight's Children, which is set in India
and Pakistan. Any thoughts?
Parvati is the name of a major Hindu goddess. Parvati (called Gauri,
the Golden) and Kali (who is black) are two aspects of Shiva's
consort. Parvati is not an uncommon given name for girls.
