If there was only one prefect per house, Percy would, perhaps, have been
described as "the Gryffindor prefect" rather than "a prefect".

On the subject of numbers, is it possible that there are other Gryffindors
in Harry's year who we never see or hear from? Perhaps Jo is employing the
'ensemble cast' idea favoured by "Star Trek" and teen situation comedies
like "Sabrina - The Teenage Witch" where a small group of main characters
do all the talking and action, while a large cast of extras walk around
in the background entering turbolifts or opening lockers.

I think the Hogwarts' numbers must still be quite small, because there
aren't very many teachers...

Oh, I finally found out that the elusive fourth house at my school was
called 'Stags' (Gryphons, Lions, Dragons and Stags). I knew you'd all
be thrilled to know that.
