There does seem to be some sort of family link, but perhaps Harry isn't
the only one who *could* have ended up in a different house. Perhaps
some of the Weasleys were offered an alternative by the hat, but chose
to go into Gryffindor because it was a family tradition.

I haven't seen the fanfic you mentioned - where is it?
