Hi:

<<Rowling has deliberately avoided saying which houses James and Lily were
in, allow us to lull ourselves into believing both were is Gryffendor. I
say Lily was in Slytherin, and that Snape was in love with her, but she
got radical and fell for a Gryffendor! I say that Voldemort wanted her to
come to his side and that she resisted-- and that marrying James was a
part of that resistance! I say her green eyes have some sort of special
power, and I am CERTAIN that it is no coinicidence that the flashing
Harry saw was green!>>

Well, I don't know about the Lily as a Slytherin theory (could be true
though), but I do think you're on to something about the "green" light
that Harry remembers from the night his parents were attacked. Is there
any significance to the fact that green smoke billows out of Harry's
vault at Gringotts? Could the color green have multiple layers of
significance?? Hmm . . .

<<BTW, was Lucius Malfoy at Hogwarts contemporary to Lily and James? It
doesn't seem so, but then their children are all the same age, so it
is plausible.>>

I would think they might have been at Hogwarts at around the same
time. I've wondered where the Weasleys (Arthur & Molly) fit into the
timeline. I've done some rigorous analysis of the probable ages of the
Weasley children though, and it would seem that since Bill & Charlie are
in their early to mid-20s at the time Harry & Ron are 11-13, doubtful that
Arthur & Molly overlapped much at all with James & Lily. I bet Arthur &
Molly were hip & happening Hogwarts students in the 1960s, with James,
Lily, Sirius, Lupin et al coming later in the 1970s.

<<Doesn't Malfoy snarl at some point that james and Lily "didn't know
what was good for them?" Implying perhaps that they had an offer to come
over to the Dark side?>>

There are several references to James & Lily meddling where they shouldn't
and not "knowing what was good for them", etc. And, they do apparently
have a small fortune by wizarding standards. Where did all the money
come from? What were their occupations? How were they running afoul
of Voldemort & gang? Why did they retain such close connections with
Dumbledore after graduating from Hogwarts? Dumbledore volunteered to
be their secret keeper, which seems to indicate that the Potters were
quite high-up and important in the fight against Voldemort's forces.

So many questions . . . hoping *some* of them will be answered or
clarified in Book 4!

Penny
