I was looking at the audio tapes in a bookshop the other day. I guess
you could say I was *coveting* them - you know, picking them up and
reading all the notes, putting them back, picking them up again, running
my finger along the shelf, etc.
I know I'll buy them eventually (or get arrested for loitering), but
I'm enjoying the anticipation.
The person who gave me the first book as a present first came across it
himself as an audio tape and recommends this medium.
The British versions are read by actor/comedian Stephen Fry, who has a
great 'bumbly' voice (perfect for Dumbledore, in particular).
The tapes last about 9 hours per book and cost about four times as much
as the papery equivalents.
Final thing on this point: Wouldn't it be great if the books were done
as radio plays, with different actors playing the parts?
