While dining out with my husband, I was mentioning that our local
bookstore (Judy's) has a huge cardboard castle up with "Hogwarts"
over the doorway and a sign that says, "Harry Potter's coming on July
8th! Reserve your copy inside!" in their window. My husband wasn't very
interested. So I said, "You just don't understand how much I'm looking
forward to reading this book, do you?" and he said, "No, but tell me in
terms I'd understand." So I proceeded to tell him that I'm as excited
about HP4 as he would be if:

A new microbrewery showed up in Porterville (our town) overnight and had a
"free pint of each beer" weekend...
And then Phish showed up for a live concert...
And then the original Yes (gawd, there is so much Yes in our cd collection
I could puke) showed up to do another free concert and hand out their
new cd...
And then at the end, the owners of the brewery came out and said,
"Thanks for coming! You all get a new car!" and handed us the keys.

So. Needless to say, he was impressed. Then he asked me a funny question
that I'd like to ask all of you:

"Let's say you had a choice: either accept a new car (value: $50k) and
vow NEVER to read the 4th HP book (didn't say anything about the rest),
or give it all up and read it... which would you choose?"

I said, "I'd read it, duh!" But he didn't believe me. After all, the
other half of my conversation tends to revolve around not having enough
money to pay our bills. And I was wondering if any other adults would
give up such a large sum (or larger!) of money that they could use to
pay for college for their kids and other things just to read a kids
book... so.... would you?
