Sorry I'm so late responding to this, and thank you for asking.

Here are my brief stats:

Woman: yes
Parent: no
Teacher: no
Writer: yes (of YA romance, though my own writing's suffered greatly
since I found HP)
Witch: no
Introduced by other fan: yes and no

I first heard of the books through my on-line writing group. But I
didn't pay much attention to the discussion at the time. So little,
in fact, that I thought at first they were talking about Beatrix Potter
(the author of Peter Rabbit)!

A couple months later, last November, I saw the books in a local bookstore
(what a concept! <G>). I thought they might be a good Christmas present
for my then 11-year-old niece, Robin. So I went to the clerk to ask
what age group it was for (to make sure *Robin* wouldn't find it too
young). The clerk assured me that plenty of adults also enjoyed the
series.

When Robin and her family came out for Thanksgiving, I found out she was
already a fan, but hadn't been able to get her hands on PoA. I bought
it for her early so she could read it on the train back home.

Throughout all this, I became, in the words of Lewis Carroll,
"curiouser and curiouser" about the series. I bought SS for myself in
early December. I planned to wait two weeks for my next paycheck, then
buy CoS, then PoA two weeks after that.

Well, as I'm sure most of you can guess, it didn't work out that
way. Despite the flu, I finished SS in one night. The next day, I
staggered to the bookstore and bought the other two. Let's just say
I didn't get the rest I needed to recuperate! I finished all three in
(I believe) four days!

Well, enough of my rambling. For those still reading, thank you for
your patience.
