Hmmm. An age range of 9-12 does seem a bit narrow in general, but perhaps
it isn't in the context of a pre-adult market, where reading skills are
still developing.
In the UK, at least, they market the HP books separately to adults, with
grown-up covers. I, for one, have no qualms about reading 'children's'
literature in front of other grown-ups, so I don't really understand
that move.
I'd assumed, because of the marketing, that JK Rowling set out to write
for older children, but perhaps she didn't have a specific age group in
mind. Has she said?
