The last bit sounds interesting. . .

June 14, 2000... The Hollywood Reporter says that acclaimed British
actress Maggie Smith is in negotiations to play Professor Minerva
McGonagall in the Harry Potter film. McGonagall is the deputy headmistress
at Harry's school for sorcery. Also mentioned in the Reporter piece is an
update on the search for a young actor to play Harry Potter continues;
with over 40,000 submissions received and so far just 300 kids that the
production has looked closely at, there's still a ways to go before we
learn the name of the lucky lad. As well, the production is playing around
with the idea of making Harry's arch nemesis, Voldemort, a entirely CGI
character in the film! [Scooped by Ken Rocker and Matt Allen; originally
appeared in The Hollywood Reporter.]
