Amazing isn't it, that with all the rich language in the Harry Potter
books, we debate a single word!
I finally plugged my speakers in and listened to the sample on Nick's
site. With her fairly 'proper' English accent, Jo says Hermione roughly
as I would say it, and she is saying Her-my-ohnee to my ears.
However, American English tends to lengthen vowel sounds, so I can see
where the confusion lies. I imagine most Americans, for example, would
pronounce Ron as R-ah-n rather than Ron with a shorter vowel sound?
Is this making any sense? Probably not!
