When I posted a "Happy Father's Day" and included Hagrid it was not
intended to be a message from his own. Fathers can be everyone and anyone
in a family. In my opinion, Hagrid looked out for Harry more than the
Dursleys, therefore his message was from Harry. I felt and still feel
it is warranted.
First of all I just joined this list. Have finished reading the first
three books with my 10 year old daughter. I wanted to comment on this
point because it is very personal to me. I have spent most of my life
raising other men's children. The 10 year old in question and her 17
year old sister I have been raising since I met their mother 7 years
ago. Before then there was a long string of children I cared for between
the ages of 2 and 8 years old that each spent a few years in my life
before their mothers moved on for various reasons. I also spent a year
and a half caring for a friend's infant daughter. I don't see them much
any more but am told that to this day if she can't have mommy she calls
me for me, not her daddy even though he has never been absent from her
life. Make of it what you will.
