You're right, Nicholas.

We shouldn't assume anything in the magical universe behaves as it does in
the Muggle world. After all, there are centaurs, pixies, elves, goblins,
trolls, dragons, giant talking spiders, hippogryffs, animagi and Aunt
Marge. Hagrid seems pretty normal against that zoo.

The only thing JK Rowling has said, in recent interviews, is that she
wouldn't bring people back from the dead with magic (i.e. Harry's parents)
- otherwise, anything goes, from invisibility and time travel to reading
tea leaves!

Hagrid also represents that 'gentle-but-simple giant' character
that appears so often in mythical and horror literature. A bit like
Frankenstein... well sort of (can't think of another example right
now). We love him, because he befriends the heroes, even though he could
snap their necks like matchsticks if he wanted.
