Subject: Considerations when you Post
Date: 6/19/00 9:51 am (ET)
Hi:
I want to follow up on cj's comments from last night regarding content
and format of posts to this list. She made some great points, and I'd
like to expand on that for a moment.
Things to consider when you post:
1. READ your own message carefully before you hit "Post Message." If
you are a poor typist, run spell check if available. If your browser
doesn't support spell check, then READ your message closely (or compose
it in a word processing program and run spell check that way).
2. I cannot (and *will* not) continue to wade through messages that
are in all lower-case, full of typos and spelling errors, grammatically
incomprehensible and/or devoid of punctuation. If you consistently post
messages with these faults, then you can expect that many of us will
begin to skip over your posts (i.e. ignore them).
Write in complete sentences.
Use uppercase & lowercase (reading all lowercase is hard on the eyes).
Use punctuation -- at the very least put a period at the end of each
sentence.
If you're not sure, run spell check or use a dictionary. Examples: Maybe
is not spelled mabey. There is a difference between "there" and "their"
(and neither of these words is spelled theer).
3. Please remember that most of the members are over 18. If you are not
yet old enough to buy a beer, please pay particular attention to the
above notes on posting. It might be helpful to think about whether your
parents and/or teachers could read what you've just composed. Would they
understand it? If not, reconsider posting it (please!).
Hopefully, none of this has offended anyone.
Thanks for listening --
Penny
