Hi:

<This is the ever-popular "Harry as Scrooge" question. My answer is that,
as you say, it is how JKR writes. She might have written at some point,
to paraphrase Louisa May Alcott: "Everyone
got Christmas presents, but we will only discuss
Harry's, because it is with he that we have the most to do, the other
characters being of only secondary importance." (I must admit, however,
that I'm glad JKR never wrote such a passage -- I don't consider Ron,
Hermione, Hagrid, etc. to be of only "secondary importance".)>

Well, I'm guilty of raising this issue more than once I'm sure. It just
bothers me that there is never any mention of him getting presents for
others (especially since there is such emphasis on him *receiving*
gifts). I can see how it might be cumbersome or cluttering to have
mention of Ron & Hermione's birthdays. But, since Hermione's birthday was
mentioned in PoA, how hard would it be to include 1-2 sentences indicating
that Harry & Ron snuck off from Hermione and picked up her gifts in
Diagon Alley?? How hard would it be to have a brief mention in one of
the Christmas scenes that Ron was opening the box of chocolate frogs from
Harry -- there's mention of the presents Ron is getting from others. In
CoS when Hermione comes in on Xmas morning -- how much trouble would it
have been to have Harry reach under his bed and toss presents to Ron &
Hermione? No description of *what* he gave them would even be necessary.

Don't know *why* this topic bothers me so much. Off my soapbox now --

Penny
