Re: Poor use of English in posts:
I've had similar debates in other groups, where many non-English
speakers post messages which are in English but, sometimes, difficult
to understand. Some people correct them, without stopping to think that
they are responding in what is, to them, a foreign language.
In the case of teenagers, I suspect that the internet (chat rooms
in particular) has created a new language - let's call it 'Internet
Esperanto' - which says goodbye to capital letters and punctuation,
and instead relies on firing off thoughts and ideas.
This new language is accepted between those who use it, but seems really
shoddy to the rest of us. People say that two drunks slurring away to each
other hear each other speaking quite normally - is that a useful analogy?
I'm not saying this new lingo is a good thing, but I think it explains
the style of some posts.
