Hi:
<For those of you who have both versions of the books - which do you
prefer... the Hard Back Large Print with chapter illustrations (US
version) or the British/Canadian version - paperback/hardback small print,
no pictures.>
I prefer the British versions -- mainly because I don't know why
Scholastic felt the need to "Americanize" the books at all. So, I enjoy
reading them in their original (and, IMO, superior) form.
And, honestly, if I weren't reading so fast and paying so little attention
to anything other than the words, the illustrations in the US versions
are a bit of a give-away of what's going to happen in the chapter. The
illustrations, for those of you who don't know, are at the beginning of
each chapter, right above the chapter title. When I was re-reading the
books, I kept noticing how the illustration was a definite give-away
for what happens in the chapter (some of that attributable to 20/20
hindsight of course).
Likewise the cover art on the US versions gives away too much of the
ending scene. I'm going to try and not look at the cover and throw the
dust jacket into a closet until I'm done with Book 4 (also avoiding
looking at illustrations until done).
