1. Amazon.com -- I pre-ordered Book 4 from bn.com (Barnes & Noble),
because via my spree.com membership I received a hefty discount (50%, if
I remember right) in addition to the discount already offered. I think I
also get 7% cash back from B&N for using my credit card to purchase it. I
wish now that I had ordered from Amazon.com, so I could get my book on
July 8! I'd cancel my order at bn.com, but I have this lingering fear
that if I order from Amazon at this late date, all copies will be sold
out and I'll have to wait even longer! Anyway, I can't wait to read it!
2. Audio books -- I wish I could afford to buy the CD versions, but I
can't right now (although when my birthday arrives in November, they're
going to be at the top of my wish list!). The audio verson of Sorcerer's
Stone (tape) is at the local library, but it's been checked out, so I
have it on hold and am anxiously awaiting for it to be returned (it's due
tomorrow, according to the computer) so I can have it. I also purchased
the audiobook version of CoS as an early birthday present for my twin
cousins (they're going to be 12 at the end of August). I'm giving it to
them in nine days because we have a 15-hour car ride ahead of us and I
think the 9-hour story will keep us occupied. :) I can't wait to hear it!
3. Grammar and punctuation: My personal opinion is that individual
usage of grammar and punctuation tells something about the person. IMHO,
if a person does not at least make an attempt to use good grammar and
punctuation (including capitalization) he/she is disrespecting whoever
he/she communicating with, whether it's via snail mail, e-mail, or
other mediums. Again, just my opinion. I'm also majoring in English,
so I'm touchy about grammar and such. :)
4. HP in a foreign language -- I recently purchased "Harry Potter y La
Piedra Filosofal" from Amazon.com. (That's the Spanish version, BTW.) I've
already taken 3 college Spanish courses, and I'm taking a fourth this
fall. My professor suggested that I read a book in Spanish over the
summer so I wouldn't totally forget everything I've learned. He suggested
"Don Quixote," but I tried to read that book in ENGLISH and I hated it,
so I'm reading Harry Potter instead. :) So far, I've done the first
paragraph -- and it's very different from the English/British versions.
4. Voicelady's list -- sadly, very few of those rang a bell. :) I was
born in 1980, so I didn't think many would. However, I DO remember Pong,
and when an Atari was the coolest thing on the planet. I also remember
when the original Nintendo was brand-new and Super Mario Bros. was
"the bomb"! :)
Okay, I'm going to go now. Sorry if this was too long...
