And now... here is the news...
(sorry, could not resist that one!)
"Bloomsbury (UK Publisher) have said today that 1.5 million copies of
book 4 have been printed."
Did you know: anything over 5000 books is considered to be an acceptable
first print run - no wonder the publishers are love Jo.
Scholastic (the US publisher) is printing 3.8 million copies.
4.4 million copies of PoA were printed by Scholastic - but first run
was only 250,000.
"Lucky fans in America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland will
be able to get their hands on the book on the same day as British readers
but other countries will have to wait."
Well, that's not quite true, Retuers London has it wrong there. America
will be the first to get the books, as midnight EST is before 11am GMT
or BST. So while most of us get the books on the same day... some of us
get them sooner than others.
"The saga is expected to be translated into 49 languages and sold in
around 110 countries"
And thus why I feel an INTERNATIONAL fan club is needed.
"Bloomsbury are keeping the book's title secret before a grand launch
for schoolchildren at a London railway station."
So at least the launch is still going ahead - and there are not that
many London railway station's to choose from... See you at Kings Cross.
"Ingram Book, a major wholesaler, is getting about 75 percent of its
initial order the first day, with the balance coming shortly afterward"
Oh dear... sounds as though some of us won't be getting our books on
the day then.
"A lot of independent stores are doing a lot of different promotions for
the book with all kinds of quirky, peculiar wiggles as only independent
bookstores can do," said Richard Howorth, former president of the
American Booksellers Association (ABA). "We're trying to beat the big
guys with service."
And Jo as we all know (or should know by now) loves Independent
Bookstores. Strange really, when you consider her UK book signings
are taking place at bookstores belonging to large chains (Borders,
Waterstones).
Square Books in Oxford, Miss., will open at 6 a.m. on the 8th July and
will give discounts to anyone who shows up in pajamas. (The independent
bookstores do have great ideas - imagine Amazon offering you that sort
of deal)
And Finally (UK members, read in your best ITN newsreaded style)
The BBC reports that Robbie Coltrane has been approached for a part in
the movie - Hagrid perhaps - though I like Neil's (I think) suggestion
of Mr Dursley.
