I have collected covers for Harry Potter books from around the world. In
my opinion, the American covers are about as good as they come. There
are two series of British covers: One are colorful and capture a scene
from the book.

Philosopher's Stone shows a cartoon Harry on Platform 9 3/4. (The less
colorful cover has a black and white train.) Clear winner the American
cover.

Chamber of Secrets the British Cover shows Ron and Harry in the flying
car. You could argue that the American cover gives away the ending but
I didn't realize it did until I got there. (The less colorful British
cover has a black and white of an old car in some clouds.) The American
cover is the better cover.

Prisoner of Azkaban - The American and British covers are very
similar with both of them choosing to show Harry and Hermione on the
Hippogriff. For this cover, I prefer the British version.

The French covers are uniformly of low artistic quality. The German ones
are interesting. But to be perfectly honest, the ones I like best are
the ones from the Scandanavian countries.

I'm putting some of my collection in the photo album.
