It depends what you mean - is the casket left open during the
ceremony? That seems a bit gross.
Thankfully, I haven't made a habit of attending funerals, but in most
cases I believe the lid of the coffin (we don't call them caskets) is
firmly on during the service. This applies for burials and cremations
(at least those I've attended).
Some religions have a viewing of the body in a Chapel of Rest, or
similar, or even in the home of the relatives, before the funeral
service. Actually, maybe that's down to personal choice, but I've never
experienced it.
