Please note the following contains some possible spoilers for book 4. It
is more stuff about the title. So be warned and do not read any further
if you want to avoid such comments!
<I would think the word chalice gets more use here in US than 'goblet'. I
was tempted to say "whats a goblet, a young turkey?">
The word goblet has come up before in the book, or at least the UK
versions. In PS 'Malfoy was banging his goblet on the table'. This was
when Slytherin had 'won' the house cup just before Dumbledore announced
the extra pointes for Harry and others. I believe their are other similar
references in the books.
Having said that I always think of turkey when the word goblet
comes up! The following are dictionary definitions of the two words
(www.dictionary.com as I can't remember the OED website address!)
Goblet:
1) A drinking vessel, such as a glass, that has a stem and base.
2) Archaic. A drinking bowl without handles.
Chalice:
1) A cup or goblet.
2) A cup for the consecrated wine of the Eucharist.
The bottom one would be more likely to upset Church people if we are to
go with the comment that has been made a few times.
