Yes, Yes, Yes! I have a running disagreement with the author of Paradigm
of Uncertainty over this issue (she uses a "formal" name of Harold in
several places in that fanfic).
Harry is sometimes a nickname for Henry (Prince Harry is a good example
of this), but it is typically not a nickname of Harold. It seems to
most often, both in the UK and the US, be a given name unto itself. I
wonder if the name Harry will gain even more popularity as a result of HP
(my hubby and I have a running disagreement on this issue . . .)
