actually I'd recommend Terry Brooks 5 book Landover series (if I haven't
already said it!)
The first book is called "Magical Kingdom for Sale-sold!"

similarities with HP? "Hmmmmmm"....
well there's the court wizard Questor Thews. Sort of Bumbling old wizard
who learned magic on his own without help from his brother but sort
of gets things mixed up. Then there's the Dragon Strabo but really we
haven't met any dragons in this book yet.

anyway I'd recommend it very much or anything Terry Brooks has written. (I
actually just finished the last 2 books yesterday... can you tell summer
holidays have begun??)
