NEW YORK (CNN) -- Author J.K. Rowling wanted kids to be the first to
catch a glimpse of her latest "Harry Potter" book. Just maybe not quite
this quickly. A copy of "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" -- which
isn't supposed to go on sale until July 8 -- wound up in the hands of an
American 8-year-old after it was placed accidentally on a store shelf. Now
the girl, identified only as Laura, may be the first child in the world
who has the heavily hyped book, the fourth in the series about a young
wizard and his enchanted adventures. "I think it is great," said Laura,
who got the 700-plus-page sequel when her father's friend spotted it in
the store. "None of my friends have it. It's just wonderful." Despite his
daughter's glee, dad didn't rule out selling it for the right price. "It
would have to be an absolutely ridiculous sum of money," he said. Already
a best-seller based on advance orders, the book has been shrouded in
secrecy, partly due to Rowling's reported consideration of her young
readers. Book sellers had to sign an affidavit promising not only that
they wouldn't sell the book before July 8, but that they wouldn't even
take it out of the box. At Amazon.com, the books are cordoned off in a
warehouse protected by security guards.

Keeping you informed...
Nick.
