I checked all the references in book 3 and all were about the Quidditch
Cup, not the house championship. I think quite frankly that coming up with
a hard and fast timeline is not possible. And I think it is deliberate. I
think JKR uses relative references to places and times rather than exact
ones because she does not want the stories to be placed in a realistic
setting. They are about magic and possibilities and potential after all.
Having said that, I would like to go back to a point someone else brought
up a while ago. That is the fact that Professor Trelawney's prediction
in book 3 was her second. At first I just blew it off; but we all are
beginning to see that everything is deliberate. So I tried to think of
what the first prediction could have been. Which led me to Voldemort
and his attack on Harry when Harry was a baby. Why would someone who was
trying to gain power want to kill a baby? The only reason I could come
up with was that he considered Harry a threat. But why would someone
consider a baby a threat? Because it had been predicted. Does that make
sense to anyone else?
