When I first read the books, I was pronouncing it "Her Me Own" in my own
mind. Then I heard that it was actually supposed to be "Her My O Knee"
(which I think is very hard to say, especially very fast). Then, I heard
the audio tapes and Jim Dale pronounces it as "Her Ma Knee" (*definitely*
easier to say).
Re: pronounciation of Voldemort. I believe it is true that the "t" on
the end should be silent (the audio tapes pronounce it this way). Am I
remembering my high school French correctly that it would be pronounced
with a silent "t" and means "death"?
BTW, I absolutely *love* the audio versions! I know someone else commented
on that the other day, but I wanted to echo that sentiment. They are just
wonderful, particularly if you have to spend any time at all in traffic
(or on the subway or train). I don't think Jim Dale does as good a job
with Hermione (her words sound too drawn out and consequently somewhat
whiney), but he does a fantastic job with all the male characters and
most of the female characters. His Hagrid voice is top-notch!
