Well, I think Mr. Beckhorn accomplished his objective -- he wanted to
stir up trouble and get some attention and he sure did get it. I think it
would have been funny if we had all kept chatting about our beloved Harry
Potter books and just ignored him completely. But, since we have chosen to
respond, I'll add some thoughts to the good points that others have made.
This will be a 2 or 3 part message as Yahoo is prompting me to cut it
down. <g>
<Excuse me but how can you stand there and tell me to lighten up my
morals?? Who are you to tell me this???>
Uh, excuse ME, but didn't you START this conversation??? Hello!! That's
the problem with you fundamentalist types is that you want to *do*
the preaching, but you sure don't want to do any listening.
I doubt you've read the books so I'll give you some basic facts. First,
the books do not encourage witchcraft, Satanism or anything of the
sort. The author has pointed out before that of all the thousands
of children she's met while she does book tours and promotions, not
a single one has ever said, "Thanks for writing these books. I really
want to become a witch now." My sister is reading them to her 3rd grade
class right now, and she said the children very clearly understand that
the books are fantasy (and fiction).
More to come . . .
