This seems a bit much for kids to handle. But I would admit there has
to be a connection between Voldemort and Harry because it hurt Voldemort
so much to zap Harry. I think the author is trying to convey some deeper
meanings to the readers other than the most obvious. The parallels between
Draco and Snape, Harry and his father, Hermione and Professor McGonagall
are trying to convey to young readers that they will grow up someday
to be adults and their actions today are leading down the path to some
future. I think Harry wrestles with Voldemort the way that young people
wrestle with themselves about right and wrong. Rowling obviously wants
to show how prejudice against others who are different is wrong (ie. the
Chamber of Secrets with Muggleborns, etc..) I think she is a talented
enough writer not to give us some comic book ending to these stories.
Regarding the " who will die" scenarios. It seems to me that she
might just break my heart and kill off Hagrid. He's my favorrrrite
charrrracterrrrr, but the books would survive without him. I love reading
to my son in my best impression of Sean Connery after a long night of
drinking. " And doncha be gettin a big head about it either, ya big lug,
or I'll zap a pig's tail on yer behind." One of my favorite threats to
my sons since reading Harry Potter.
Thoughts anyone?
By the way, do you get the feeling that the name Draco Malfoy is another
one of those cryptograms like Tom Marvolo Riddle? The name sounds kind
of funny to me.
I wonder if Griffindor, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff will be talked about
more in the future books?
