You didn't miss much (IMO). I thought the author completely missed the
point. Wouldn't it be totally weird if the 3 main characters *didn't*
grow up or change at all in 7 books? They'll be on the verge of 18 when
the series ends (or when JKR's official 7 volumes ends anyway -- I still
hold out hope for post-Hogwarts stories). You can't expect that the 11
yr-old character will be exactly the same 7 books later.
