The only thing that makes sense in terms of plot is for Dumbledore to be
killed. Voldemort will kill him, and Lucius Malfoy (having been defeated
and humiliated in both Books 2 and 3) will be instrumental in effecting
this. It is necessary for Dumbledore to die because... he is the only one
Voldemort fears. Obviously there will have to be some kind of plot twist
that makes this possible-- a betrayal from within Hogwarts? Whatever it
is, the opportunity will come and Voldemort and Malfoy will take it.

Once this happens, Hogwarts is now no longer a safe place. Malfoy will
return to his position on the Board of Govenors and blackmail all of the
other govenors into electing Snape as Headmaster believing Snape to be
on his side.

Hmmmm... Could Snape have had connections on the Dark Side? Perhaps
some.... but where does his heart really lie? We will find out in a
future book that he was once in love with Lily Potter, and now hates
Harry because, as many have noted, he looks exactly like James. But
then.... in Book seven, Snape will have a chnage of heart, fall in
love again.... and perhaps surprise Voldemort and Malfoy with his true
allegiences and his power.

But I run ahead of myself: Dumbledore's death will set the tone for
the next three books. The evil presence will be much more present and
dangerous. Many students will leave in fear, some will join forces with
the Dark. Harry will stay because he really has no choice.

I do not believe that there will be any "Star Wars" cop out. Voldemort
is NOT Harry's father-- he looks like him, after all-- but we WILL find
out something evry interesting about Lily Potter's background.

Also, Rowling has made the point a number of times that once one is
dead that is it: There will be no disembodies Dumbledore's saying
"Use the Force, Harry!" harry will have to draw on his own power and
strength, and perhaps will find other allies to take the place of
Dumbledore. Hmmmm... What will McGonegall's place in all of this be? I
think she will play an important role in carrying Dumbledore's torch.....

We shall see....

Thoughts?
