Hello, everyone, I just joined the club so that I could introduce myself
and say a few things that I would like to say.
My name is Matt, I am 18 (not really a grown-up, but I like to think so
sometimes), I live in North Carolina, and so far I have only read the
first of the Harry Potter books as I did not know it would be so good
that I would want to order the next three. I would be reading the second
one now, but I am finishing a non-fiction book on sociodemographics.
Well, about the book. I had heard all the hype and I had a chance to
buy it at 75% off through my book club, so I took the chance. It has
been sitting on a book shelf in my dorm room until a few weeks ago
when I moved back home and actually had time to read it. When I finally
did read it, I couldn't put it down, and once I finished I immediately
ordered the other 3 (thanks to Barnes & Noble and Discover Card at 64%
off) I found that there were quite a few things I liked about the book
which made me continue reading:
(1) Easy flowing & descriptive language - very easy to read, no confusing
words or language to get in the way of understanding and more than any
other fiction book i have read, i could picture the people, the images
in my mind as they were happening, every table, chair, and person were
clear as day in my head
(2) No plot gaps - even when there was not as much exciting stuff going
on, there were still hints, clues, and discussions around which the
rest of the plot depended, which made for no parts of the book that
plodded along.
(3) Exposition of conclusion - all the things that were revealed in the
end of the book that not only shed light on the earlier happenings, but
raised more questions about the future. And in the end, the good guys won
(the Gryffindors).
Some things about book number 4:
-- Someone 'important' is going to die (J.K. Rowling revealed in an
interview that someone was going to die in book number 4, and in another
interview, that I didn't read, that the person was important, which i
heard through the grapevine)
-- Harry gets more interested in girls (Hermoine or Cho?)
-- Available July 8th in bookstores, or for shipment from online retailers
July 7th (without a Same Day Shipping Option), you can preorder yours
at Barnes & Noble or Amazon
--Title: Harry Potter and the Doomspell Tournament
Some things about the movie:
--Chris Columbus (Mrs. Doubtfire, Home Alone) is directing it, and I
really hope he doesn't pick another Macauly Culkin. Culkin was not that
great of an actor, but fit "the look": short, skinny, picked on, etc,
etc, etc. If there is going to be 7 (or more) movies, we need a kid with
real acting abilities.
--Jamie Bell cannot play any of the first years, he just looks too old.
--If they make seven movies, any other jobs that this actor gets, he
will be known as "the Harry Potter kid", which as Macauly Culkin knows,
can kill a carrer, so that leaves two possibilities:
(1) the Harry Potter movies will be the only movies the kid ever does or
(2) the kid knows he does not want to be an actor after he is 18 years
old and decides that the movies will be his claim to fame
Some things about other things:
--The rights to related merchandise has been sold to Mattel and Hasbro,
who have agreed to not distribute them until at least the release date
of the first movie, which would be silly anyway because they need to
get the actor's face right and we don't know who that is yet.
That is all I've got for now,
Matt B.
