"However, my kudos to JKR for writing a book series with so relatively
few inconsistencies. (The Oz Books are riddled with 'em!)"

I've just finished reading "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" and found it
surprisingly thin, poorly-written and boring. The blurb describes it
as L Frank Baum's "masterpiece". If that's true, I don't think I'll be
chasing up his lesser works!

I reckon the popularity and aura of the film made the Oz books seem
like they ought to have been classics, when they weren't. There's an
interesting contrast with the Harry Potter series, where we're questioning
whether the film can possibly capture the phenomenal power of the books.
