Actually, it's going to be one of the biggest *American* films in years,
albeit with a British cast. Sadly, the British film industry still doesn't
have the financial backing it needs to take on such a massive project, (and
unless someone knows otherwise - I'm guessing the backing for this film is
also American). If a British film company had wanted the film rights, I'm
fairly sure JKR and Bloomsbury would have favoured that option.
That said, I'm cautiously optimistic about this film. The actor choices are
great so far and I think the special effects will be spot on. The music is
my main bugbear: John Williams' music makes me think 'rousing, generic,
overblown orchestrations', and it does have the stamp of 'kids' glossy
blockbuster special' on it. I'm still thinking of Philip Glass - that sort
of vaguely medieval/madrigal type stuff he did for 'The Cook, The Thief, His
Wife and Her Lover' or 'Prospero's Books' would be perfect.
