Petrified Peeves

This has been bothering me.  Why would Peeves (in book
one) be afraid of the Bloody Baron (actually Harry
disguising his voice under the Inv. cloak) ?  

He is already a non-living creature in some kind of
torment due to his ghostly nature.  What could the
Bloody Baron do to him that causes him to be afraid?

Perhaps they were related before they both died?  You
know how you tend to stay in awe of some of your older
relatives even as they grow older and you become a
grown up.  Maybe the Baron is his uncle or something
and always made Peeves nervous when he was around. 
What do you guys think?
