Just a supposition..

I remember an old tale, where an evil lord, in a fit of anger,
changed his young wife into a hound. Only after the tranformation
was complete did he realize that she was pregnant. Since the
pregnancy hadn't been taken into account in the transformation, he
was unable to tranform her and the baby (Or was it babies?) back into
humans. She gave birth as a dog, and the child was born as a puppy,
and spent it's life as an unusually intelligent dog.

So If a female werewolf conceived or bore her children in wolf form,
couldn't they be dominantly wolf?

What about other shape-shifters? What would happen if a female
animagus transformed while pregnant? The Child would have to be
transformed too... Wouldn't it?

Maybe crookshanks is a product of such mixed magics.......
