Subject: Re: [HPforGrownups] Casting and Hagrid's accent
Hi folks,
I recently joined the list - haddn't spoken up yet, but thought I should now.
THis issue of casting and Warner bros. screwing up the Harry Potter movies is a good one.
But, I think that Chris Columbus can and WILL do it right. He seems genuinely concerned for keeping the spirit and tone of the books, especially by his filming two different versions of the movie - one for the UK and one for America. The UK is the one I will really want to see.
It makes me think back to when I saw "Willy Wonka and the CHocolate Factory" - which happens to be my all time favorite movie. While some license was taken in bringing the movie to life in a "pseudo American/ENglish town" with AMerican actors, it absolutely is a wonderful interpretation of the book.
But that's the point isn't it - with a book you can just imagine everything as you wish to see it - a movie takes that away from you - but what it does is give yo a physically visual interpretation of the book....and we can only hope it is as true to the book as possible.
