  In third grade, we got lucky and had a substitute, named Mrs. Hood.  I wasn't a big big reader until that year, but she brought in and started reading Nancy Drew and the 99 steps, or the like, and that sounds like exactly what I did (dragged mom to the mall, and used birthday money to buy myself a copy...  When Mrs. Hood found out, she wasn't mad I had read ahead (like finished the book like HP?), but instead asked me to bring in my copy and show the pictures to the class as she read!  She was sooo kewl!
