At this point let me sum up my opinion on Trelawney as: she knows
more than McGonagall and Hermione think but she knows less than she
herself thinks.
About alumni: At my (American) high school we definitely referred to
the former students as "alumni", even to the point of having an
alumni association and various sorts of alumni dinners, etc. Of
course, being a private school, the admninistration had to rely
partially on the alumni for money, so they probably had (and still
have) to do some ego stroking. I suspecct that public high schools
don't take their graduates quite as seriously.
