The foggy future and alumni

At this point let me sum up my opinion on Trelawney as: she knows 
more than McGonagall and Hermione think but she knows less than she 
herself thinks.
About alumni:  At my (American) high school we definitely referred to 
the former students as "alumni", even to the point of having an 
alumni association and various sorts of alumni dinners, etc.  Of 
course, being a private school, the admninistration had to rely 
partially on the alumni for money, so they probably had (and still 
have) to do some ego stroking.  I suspecct that public high schools 
don't take their graduates quite as seriously.
