"Speaking of which, is it just me, or is the point system at Hogwarts really
whacked? I mean, Harry got 60 points for getting the Sorceror's Stone, and
Ron and Hermione each got 50. Then Harry and Ron each got 200 points for
the Chamber of Secrets stuff. What kind of scale is this? Shouldn't
Hermione be demanding to see some sort of written guidelines?"

Lets see, can I justify this imbalance in points?

In CoS they saved the life of a person (Ginny) whereas this was not the case
in PS.
In PS the points were awarded to give the opportunity for Neville to play a
part in winning the house cup.
In PS they knew, to a certain extent, what they were up against. In CoS they
only had the note from Hermione to warn them as to what they might face.
Does Hermione even know how many points were awarded for the Chamber
heroics? At the time she was being revived and at the feast the celebration
was over the defeat of Tom Riddle and the Basilisk. Points would not have
been an important issue.
The house cup has become less important through the series. It was hardly
mentioned in GoF but was almost the most important thing in PS.

That is all I can think of at the moment!
