New? Ravenclaw thought

I had a thought last night--for those who think the Ravenclaw emblem
should be a raven, it occurred to me that the term might actually have
nothing to do with ravens. In archaic usage it can also simply be an
alternate term for dark or black. Rowena might have been associated with
an eagle (animaga form, familiar, whatever) which had black claws.
Ravenclaw. Like raven tresses. Eh?
