To clear this up - what Susan described is from the movie. Gilbert was not
engaged to Christine in the books, as Susan recognized in another e-mail.
I had never read the books when I saw the first movie, but I devoured them
all shortly afterwards. I'm still pouting over the mess of the last movie -
to me, the WWI era in LMM's universe will always be "Rilla of Ingleside",
not "Anne of Generation X".
