Oh, yes.  *I* think that having lost his parents so early and being 
handed over to strangers, those strangers would have had to be rather 
perfect for him not to develop a fear of intimacy. As those strangers 
were the opposite of rather perfect, it's more surprising that he's 
able to be *friends* with Ron and Hermione than that he hasn't warmed 
up to other nice people as friend and he's hiding from romance.
