HMI back !! It's actually quite feasible - Voldy wasn't after James and
Lily, but Harry. Same goes for the Longbottoms. Harry might not have
twigged because the fact hasn't been mentioned. and if they have to
qualify to get in, he could just have thought that there weren't many
boys of his age that were eligible.

I think that you may have just hit upon something.
