Actually, I wasn't thinking of Harry's having been given a memory 
charm to prevent some sort of later in life emotional trauma from 
Voldemort's attack on his parents--I entirely agree that that's a 
pretty ridiculous idea. And ordinarily I would think that a child only 
a year old would hardly need to be made to forget something he saw at 
that age, since he would be unlikely to understand it or remember it. 
At least I personally remember nothing from when I was a year old. 
However, Harry does still have dreams about that night, as we see in 
PS/SS, whether or not that is reasonable. But seeing how Harry's 
whereabouts for a full twenty four hours are still unknown, and the 
exact circumstances of his parents' deaths are still foggy, it might 
well be that something of substance happened during that time that he 
needed to be made to forget. At any rate, I admit its a stretch. And 
the mention of this having been the third time may also be an error in 
the printing.
