Actually this sounds like different book to the one I'm searching for, but
if it's the one I'm thinking of, I do know the author this time! It sounds
like one of the Green Knowe series, by L M Boston - I can't remember which
one, but there's a fire at the house, and the mistress' jewels go missing,
and she is told that the only way she will ever recover them is by making a
picture of the house out of the hair of every single person who was in the
house on the night of the fire. They're brilliant books and come highly
recommended from this quarter.
The 'hairloom' I was thinking of is exactly that - a loom that weaves hair,
and I'm blowed if I can remember anything else about these books! Thanks
for the suggestion though, Catlady!
