Ah yes, well I may have to slightly disagree with you.  I happen to think 
Snape has just as unhappy life as Couch did . . . Of course, at the moment 
there isn't any confirmation of this in the books although I'm sure there 
will be in the future.  I just don't think it's plausible for someone to be 
as bitter as he is without having some tragedy in his life . . . And I'm 
suspecting his background is just as bad, if not worse, than Riddle's and 
Harry's . . . .

I'm sure other Snape fans would agree :)
